A multi-blog look at lists of "Movies You Didn't Know Were Based On Comics" to see how true they really are.
Ghost World (2001) is a failing to come-of-age film based on the comic book story of the same name.
It's harder for a movie to string together moments from a life than it is for a serialised comic, and so the film adds a bit of narrative to help the story flow. Also added is a confidential art summer school sub-plot and a main character which is an amalgam for several from the comic and apparently based on the film's director (a fact which combined with Enid Coleslaw being an anagram for comic book creator Daniel Clowes makes the sex a bit weird.)
Ghost World is a fun indy film which is ultimately a lot less satisfying than it hopes to be.
